Grief & Loss
Grief is one of the most profound and deeply personal experiences we can have. While it is often associated with the death of a loved one, grief can also follow the end of a relationship, infertility, pregnancy or infant loss, changes in health, loss of identity, caregiving, family estrangement, career transitions, or any significant life change. There is no "right" way to grieve, and no timeline that determines when you should be feeling better.
Grief rarely moves in a straight line. Some days you may feel grounded, while others can feel unexpectedly heavy. You might experience sadness, anger, guilt, numbness, relief, anxiety, or even moments of joy that are quickly followed by guilt. Grief can affect every aspect of life, including your relationships, sense of identity, ability to concentrate, and the way you experience the world around you. It can also feel incredibly isolating, particularly when those around you expect you to have "moved on."
Our experiences of grief are shaped not only by the loss itself, but also by our relationships, attachment experiences, cultural traditions, family beliefs, and previous experiences with loss. For some, grief is complicated by unresolved relationships, trauma, or losses that are not openly acknowledged or understood by others. There may be pressure to remain strong, to care for everyone else, or to hide the depth of your pain. These experiences can make grief feel even heavier to carry.
My approach to grief counselling is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in the understanding that grief is not a problem to be solved. Rather than trying to help you "get over" your loss, therapy offers a space to make sense of your experience, honour your relationship with what has been lost, and navigate the many emotions that grief can bring. Together, we'll explore how your loss has shaped your life while helping you reconnect with your values, your relationships, and the parts of yourself that may feel difficult to access right now.
Drawing from attachment theory, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, our work will be guided by your unique experiences, needs, and goals. Whether your loss is recent or occurred many years ago, therapy provides a space where your grief doesn't have to be minimized, explained, or carried alone.
Grief is not something to "get over"—it is something we learn to carry in ways that honour both what we've lost and the life that continues to unfold. Together, we'll create space for your grief, without judgment, expectation, or timelines.
