Anxiety
Anxiety is more than simply worrying too much. It can feel like your mind is constantly racing, your body is always on high alert, or you're waiting for something to go wrong—even when there's no immediate threat. You may find yourself overthinking conversations, replaying past events, imagining worst-case scenarios, or feeling overwhelmed by decisions that seem effortless for others. Over time, anxiety can become exhausting, affecting your relationships, work, sleep, and overall quality of life.
While anxiety often feels like the problem, it is frequently a signal that something deeper is asking for our attention. Our nervous system is shaped by our life experiences, relationships, and environments. Past trauma, attachment experiences, chronic stress, caregiving responsibilities, perfectionism, and cultural or family expectations can all contribute to a heightened state of vigilance. When your nervous system has learned to stay alert in order to protect you, anxiety can become less about what's happening in the present and more about patterns that developed over time.
Many people living with anxiety are incredibly capable. They often appear calm and successful on the outside while quietly carrying constant worry, self-doubt, or an overwhelming sense of responsibility. You may have learned to cope by overachieving, people-pleasing, avoiding conflict, or striving for perfection. While these strategies may have helped you at one point, they can also become sources of exhaustion and keep you feeling stuck.
My approach to anxiety counselling goes beyond managing symptoms. While we'll develop practical tools to calm the nervous system, manage overwhelming thoughts, and respond more effectively to stress, we'll also explore the experiences, beliefs, and relationship patterns that have contributed to your anxiety. By understanding not only what you're experiencing, but why, therapy can create lasting change rather than temporary relief.
Drawing from evidence-based approaches, attachment theory, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care, therapy is tailored to your unique needs and goals. Together, we'll strengthen emotional regulation, build healthier coping strategies, foster greater self-compassion, and help you feel more grounded, confident, and connected in your daily life.
Anxiety is not your identity—it's often a reflection of the experiences that have shaped your nervous system. Together, we'll work to understand those patterns, cultivate self-compassion, and create lasting change that extends far beyond symptom relief.
